Salina
It is the second largest island and it has a very different character from the others. Although it takes its name from the Saline of Punta Lingua, its appearance is in stark contrast to the rough terrain typical for the volcano. Instead, it is green and lush, mostly because it is naturally rich in sources of fresh water. You will find yourself in front of cliffs thrown into the sea, but also hills covered by woods and flowers with thick yellow bushes of brooms and rows of Malvasia vine (from which a very particular amber dessert wine is derived). For an unforgettable panorama, climb the highest peak of the archipelago, the Mount Fossa delle Felci, with two hours of walking starting from Sanctuary of Madonna of Terzito from which you can admire Filicudi and Alicudi on one side and the Saline di Lingua, Lipari and Vulcano on the other. The most beautiful beach is the Pollara, which sleeps inside an inlet delimited by the slopes overlooking the sea and an extinct volcano, which can be reached by sea or by a rather steep path. The beautiful bay was the location of the legendary film Il Postino (The Postman) by Massimo Troisi. But the charm of Salina is above all in its atmosphere that has remained unchanged (apart from the most inhabited and tourist area ofthe port of Santa Maria Salina), and if this idea fascinates you, here you will find your paradise far from the rest of the world.
